Quadrocopters
What is a quadrocopter
A quadrocopter is an unmanned aerial vehicle that is remotely controlled and equipped with cameras and various sensors. Such devices have become a real game changer in the war against Russia due to their mobility, low cost and wide range of applications. The use of drones allows for precision strikes against the enemy, as well as intelligence gathering and artillery fire adjustment. Due to their ease of operation and the ability to be quickly deployed on the battlefield, they have significantly increased the effectiveness of Ukrainian military operations, making them more accurate and faster.
Types of quadrocopters
Quadrocopters can be divided into several types according to their application and technical features.
Main types:
- Military models. They are used for various operations, such as the destruction of enemy equipment and personnel, reconnaissance, cargo delivery, etc. They are characterized by increased reliability, long range, and the ability to operate in difficult conditions.
- FPV drones. They allow to control the device in real time and see everything from the first person through special glasses. The main advantage is that the price of this type of quadcopter is very affordable.
- Kamikaze. Single-use drones that can carry explosives and are used in military operations to defeat targets.
- Models with a thermal imager. Equipped with a thermal imaging camera that allows for surveillance and shooting at night or in low visibility conditions. They are used to detect enemy vehicles, shelters, enemy concentrations and hidden objects.
- With a camera. Military drones can be equipped with a conventional camera for reconnaissance in good visibility conditions or a thermal imaging camera for detecting the enemy at night or through smoke and fog. This provides flexibility and efficiency in performing a variety of combat missions in different conditions.
- Bombers. These are military drones equipped with special mechanisms for dropping explosive payloads. They are used for targeted attacks on enemy equipment, fortifications, and manpower.
- For training. Lightweight and easy to operate models designed for beginners. They help to master the basics of flight and control without complex technical characteristics.
- Reconnaissance. They are used for data collection and surveillance. Equipped with various cameras, they allow you to study the territory from a height without revealing yourself.
Dimensions of drones
When choosing a quadcopter in Kyiv, the size of the propellers, measured in inches, plays an important role. This parameter determines their maneuverability, stability, and flight range.
What options can be ordered on USMT:
- 7 inches (Hunter D-3 series) – maneuverable and responsive to commands, but less stable in bad weather conditions. They are suitable for quick strike missions with light payloads. The payload of such a drone is 1.5 kg, the flight range is 15 km at a cruising speed of 60 km/h, and the flight time is 15 minutes.
- 8-inch drones (Hunter D-1 series) – balanced between maneuverability and stability, well suited for striking enemy vehicles. The recommended payload is 2 kg, the range is 15 km, and the flight time is 20 minutes.
- 9 inches (Hunter D-1 and Hunter D-1A series) – more stable in flight, have better energy efficiency. The Hunter D-1A series is designed specifically for work on air targets (ORLAN, SUPERCAM, ZALA). It has a flight range of 20 km and a maximum speed of 180 km/h.
- 10-inch (Hunter D-2 and Hunter D-1K series) are the largest and most stable among compact drones, can stay in the air longer and carry the largest payload. The Hunter D-2 series are bombers. They can be equipped with one or two drops. The flight time is 15 minutes. The recommended payload is 2.5 kg. The Hunter D-1K series is a ten-inch kamikaze drone. The flight range is 20-25 km at a cruising speed of 70 km/h. Flight time is 20 minutes. It can carry a payload of 2.5 kg.
How to choose a quadrocopter
When deciding to buy a drone, it is important to consider several key criteria and technical characteristics that determine its effectiveness for specific tasks.
The main indicators of quadcopters that you should pay attention to:
- Purpose of use. It can be military strike missions, reconnaissance, rescue operations, or even racing and aerial photography. The technical requirements for the device will depend on the purpose.
- Quality of components. The quality of the components determines the reliability and durability of the device. It is also worth paying attention to the quality of soldering, as it affects the stability of the electronics during the execution of tasks.
- Flight range and range. These indicators determine how far the aircraft can move away from the operator and how long it will stay in the air. For military operations, it is important to have a long flight range and stable communication over long distances.
- Resistance to jamming. Drones can operate in environments where there is a risk of radio frequency jamming. Additional jamming protection ensures that the device does not lose control and continues to perform its tasks even in an aggressive environment. For this purpose, USMT has developed its own communication protocol USMTR on LoRa with the RFI. It is resistant to EW, thanks to which our drones fly under EW.
- Camera. When choosing, you should also consider the camera resolution, as it determines the image quality. The higher the resolution, the more accurate and detailed the information obtained.
- Thermal imager. An important feature for intelligence, rescue operations, military and security missions. If you need to detect objects in low-visibility conditions, such as nighttime or bad weather, it is better to buy a quadcopter with a thermal imager.
- Data transmission security. For military or other sensitive operations, a reliable data encryption system is important to avoid interception of information during flight. For this purpose, we have our own development USMTR – an encrypted communication protocol.
- Carrying capacity. Copter drones can carry loads from 0.8 to 3 kg. The choice depends on specific tasks.
How much does a drone cost
The cost of a drone from USMT depends on several key factors:
- technical characteristics – models with more powerful engines, longer flight range, and advanced features are more expensive;
- camera quality – the presence of high-quality cameras or a thermal imager also increases the cost;
- autonomy – the longer the flight time, the higher the price of the drone;
- additional features – the cost is also affected by the availability of additional features, such as the USMTR encrypted communication protocol for EW flights.
